I remember very well when NetZero launched their first free, ad-based internet service. I was still living at home in those days, and remember my parents signed up for it immediately. It was a great service for the price — free. When the free hours every month became limited, it didn’t take long for them to switch over to Platinum. For me, that was a pretty enjoyable service. Unlimited access and the ad-banner was gone. It was perfect for the house.
Here we are nearly 10 years later. I have long since left the nest, and my parents are still using a United Online dial-up service. I was very excited when NetZero DSL was released thinking that they would switch over, but they didn’t. For their needs, dial-up is still more than adequate. When I mention that for just a few dollars a month, they could have a DSL internet connection, they just say, “no, dial-up is good enough for us.” And they’re right, for what they use the computer for, there is no point in paying extra money every month.
Although I give them a hard time for being “pre-historic”, their dial-up connection is still more than enough to do the things they do from home. Such as looking around on Craigslist or just checking e-mail. It’s a good evidence that there will still be a need for dial-up down the road. When I visit every once in a while I am able to do the basic things I need to do on their computer. Dial-up still works.
One thing is for sure. No matter what kind of connection they choose to use in the future, they will always be loyal to United Online, just as they have been in the past. It simply is one of the most innovative internet service providers out there.

Many people have asked themselves about how internet service will be in 10 years. The big question that seems to be appearing in forums is, “Will dial-up still be around 10 years down the road?” This question comes to mind as result of DSL prices dropping continually. Some people feel that dial-up will always be around because it is the most affordable internet connection. Other people feel that as technology changes and advances, the price of dial-up will rise until it reaches equilibrium with DSL services. Another important point is that in 10 years, DSL connections will still not be available to everyone in every square inch of the country, thus making dial-up connections necessary. Although many companies are loosing many dial-subscribers every year, there are still more than enough to make dial-up internet profitable. Will, dial-up eventually become outdated? Probably. Will it happen in the next 10 years? Definitely not. If that day ever does arrive, NetZero will still make it possible for everyone to have affordable access to a good internet connection, just like they always have.

Many reviews are saying that NetZero Voice(NetZero’s VoIP service) is a step above others for various reasons. First off, it allows you to make calls from your PC regardless of if you have high speed or dial-up. This required a bit of extra NetZero engineering since with many providers voice over phone only works well with high speed. Calls between NetZero customers (PC to PC) are free. Some people have said that the sound quality is better than other providers. NetZero voice has been described as very easy to use, and in one interview was said to be “better than Skype, a lot better.” Services are cheap, but there’s one pit fall; United Online is no longer offering NetZero Voice, so right now it is impossible to sign up for the service. Rumors are that Best Buy is trying to take over the distribution. Hopefully it will work out soon, because all the people that have used this service are raving about it!

NetZero Platinum is a dial-up internet service that allows the user unlimited monthly hours for a fraction of the cost of many other providers. It is optimal for the person who just gets on-line from their home computer to check their e-mail or browse around. Being dial-up, it is obviously not meant to download huge files though. For the low price of $9.95/month, it is hard to find a cheaper service with a reliable connection. NetZero Platinum has no ad-banners to impede your view and make things harder. It is a convenient service with a convenient format. Right now if you sign up for NetZero Platinum it will only cost $6.95 a month. So again, unlimited internet access for only $6.95 a month is too good a deal to pass up! To sign up now click here!

NetZero was launched in late 1998. It was the first free internet service provider and in only 6 months had an astonishing 1,000,000 users. The idea of free internet was to attract an audience for advertising. The original NetZero service monitored web surfing patterns and showed ads conforming to the interests of the individual person. The NetZero ad serving technology has several patents. After the .com bust in late 2000 early 2001 NetZero bought out all its competitors as each one went bankrupt. NetZero went public on the NASDAQ in September of 1999. In 2001 when internet advertising took a dive, NetZero again had a great idea in mind when they directed many of their customers to their Platinum service. In 2005, NetZero introduced a service called “third generation of Internet” more commonly known as 3G HiSpeed. NetZero claims the service is so fast that you wouldn’t believe it’s not broadband. This new service uses unique technology described in a previous article (3G Works Like This). In under 6 months NetZero’s ingenuity launched them into the spotlight of the internet world, and their increasing ingenuity has kept them there for almost 10 years.

Again, you know that NetZero DSL was released last year. The service was recently made available to my area and I wanted to give a few stats on it. In my area there is a 1.5Mbps (50x faster than dial-up) connection and a 3.0Mbps connection (100x faster than dial-up). The prices can be as low as $17.95 a month when starting up with the 1.5Mbps service. After 3 months the price goes up to $19.99 a month. The 3.0Mbps service seems to be a solid $24.99 a month with no raise in prices. Of course, like with any internet service, these speeds can vary a little depending on…
>The condition of the wiring in your house.
>The number of users currently using your home network.
>The distance from your house to the closest DSL switching station.
NetZero DSL service uses your regular phone line but does not interfere with your phone calls. This means when you are using the internet, your phone line will not be tied up which also means you don’t have to install another phone line. The service comes with free with Norton AntiVirus Online to protect your computer. If this service is available in your area, you should take full advantage of it right now. It is as cheap as a good DSL connection can be. If it is still not available in your area, check back from time to time to see when it is.

NetZero was the first free internet provider; founded by Ronald T Burr, Stacy Haitsuka, Marwan Zebian and Harold MacKenzie in 1998. Since then, NetZero has constantly improved internet access by being extremely innovative. They have several patents and have virtually destroyed most of the competition that has risen in the past 9 years. Now they have again made internet access more convenient using another great idea. This is 3G or third generation internet. This NetZero service is boasted to be the “fastest available dial-up connection”. It is said to be 5 times faster than the average dial-up connection and some have even said, “you wouldn’t believe it wasn’t broadband”. So the question….how did they make a dial-up connection that is so fast? The answer is that is pre-fetches HTML markup, JavaScript and other small files and compresses them. Or in other words, the service uses any idle time and silently begins to “fetch” or download documents that the user might browse to in
the near future. This pre-fetched information is stored in the cache making it possible to load very very quickly. More proof that it is often better to be smarter than stronger. This service is still available for a great price of only $9.95 a month for the first 12 months. SIGN UP HERE.
